This year’s Joyful Heart Foundation Gala was held on May 9, 2013 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. This annual social event, now on its 9th year, would never be possible without the vision of Hollywood actress and former beauty queen Mariska Hargitay. Her passion to help and care for victims of under-recognized issues namely sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse began when she took the role of Detective Olivia Benson for NBC’s TV show, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Her newfound appreciation for the extent of prevalence of sexual abuse and violence among women and children inspired her to build a foundation which aims to assist survivors throughout their healing process so they can reclaim their lives yet again.
This year’s Joyful Heart Foundation Gala was made possible with the support from corporate sponsors which include big entities like Pepsi Cola, Michael Stars, Verizon Communications, The Art of Grace, and Wolf Films among others. Law & Order: SVU star Hargitay was joined by fellow celebrities who whole-heartedly believe and support the cause, including Uma Thurman, Mary J. Blige, Glenn Close, Will Chase, Jemma Kirke, Danny Pino, Christopher Meloni, Julianne Hough, Mary Louise Parker, and Harry Connick Jr. just to name a few.
One vocal supporter of the Joyful Heart Foundation is the 24-yeard old Julianne Hough. The actress attended the foundation’s gala on Thursday evening wearing an amazingly beautiful ensemble which consisted of an alluring white fit mini dress designed by Calvin Klein and an exquisite pair of round brilliant cut diamond stud earrings in micro-pave diamond martini setting from the luxury house of Jacob & Co. At the gala, Julianne shared her personal story of the abuse she experienced when she was young while studying at London’s renowned dancing school, Italia Conti Academy. She encouraged victims of such traumatic events to be strong so they can enjoy a bright and meaningful future. Despite their horrific past, they too can be successful in life by abandoning fear and seeking a support group such as that offered by the Joyful Heart Foundation.
Julianne Hough was not the only celebrity who chose to wear the elegant masterpieces of Jacob Arabov for the event. Debra Messing was spotted at the foundation gala with her beau and former co-star Will Chase. The 44-year old Smash actress wore a stunning navy blue sleeveless jumpsuit topped off with an awe-inspiring palladium blue sapphire chandelier pendant necklace designed by Jacob & Co. head designer himself, Jacob Arabov. The luxurious item showcases over 12 carats of sapphire and more than 5 carats of diamonds.
